“Ally McBeal” and Body Shaming

E! News Online

Dr. Kara Alaimo, a public relations professor in the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, recently spoke with E! News Online  about how issues of modern-day feminism and body image in the Golden Globe-winning television hit, Ally McBeal, sparked controversy and sexist backlash when the show premiered 20 years ago.  The article also includes mention of Dr. Alaimo’s analysis in the Columbia Journalism Review earlier this year about how newsrooms should report on women’s bodies.

Dr. Alaimo is the author of the best-selling Pitch, Tweet, or Engage on the Street: How to Practice Global Public Relations and Strategic Communication.
