Civil engineering students Adam Perlmutter ‘18 and Ahsan Sandhu ‘17 and mechanical engineering student Ariel Golshan ‘17 were each awarded $2500 scholarships by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC) last month.

A total of $67,500 was given to 18 students representing seven New York area engineering schools.  Students were selected based on their cumulative grade-point average, college activities, work experience and essays on consulting engineering.

David Rooney, associate dean of the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science attended the event and said, “Not only does this meeting provide scholarships to outstanding students who are on the threshold of rewarding careers as engineers, but it also offers these same students a unique opportunity to interact with representatives of most of the leading practitioners of engineering in the metropolitan area.”

ACEC New York is a coalition of 280 civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental and geotechnical engineering firms.  The ACEC Scholarship Program was implemented to support up-and-coming engineers, thereby guaranteeing a strong future for the profession in New York State.  Since the program’s launch in 2002, ACEC New York has awarded 261 scholarships totaling $708,000.
