Kristal Brent Zook on Race in Politics, TV

Kristal Brent Zook, PhD, a journalist, author, and professor in the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, chronicles the stories of black families and individuals affected by President Trump’s travel ban policy  in the August 2017 issue of Essence magazine.

Professor Zook, author of Color By Fox (1999), also appeared on the CNN special, “The Nineties,” which premiered on Sunday, July 9, 2017, in which she discussed the emergence of popular television shows such as In Living Color, Martin, and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air – and the unprecedented creative freedom given to African-Americans both behind and in front of the screen at the time.

In addition, her essay on multiracial millennials appears on thelily.com, a product of the Washington Post.

Professor Zook writes frequently about issues of media, social justice, race, and gender.
