Writing Award for Accompanist Lauren Shapiro

Lauren Shapiro, an accompanist for the Dance program in the Department of Drama and Dance, is a 2017 winner of a Bronx Council of the Arts award in the category of literary fiction for her short stories, “In Spite of the Devil” and “Rochelle La Belle.”  She had benefited from editorial consultations at the Hofstra Writing Center with Adjunct Assistant Professor of English Joe Chilman.  In August 2016  Ms. Shapiro’s song ” Better Things to Do ” was recorded by blues singer Annika Chambers on her album “Wild & Free.” It was played this past fall on WRHU-FM.

Shapiro holds a BMus from Manhattan School of Music and an MA in Writing from Manhattanville College. She is also an accompanist for the schools at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the American Ballet Theatre.
