New Distinguished Professor in Marketing and Int’l Business: Dr. William James

Frank G. Zarb School of Business Professor William L. James, PhD, has been installed as the Robert E. Brockway Distinguished Professor in Marketing and International Business in recognition of his outstanding record of teaching and scholarship.

Dr. James’ areas of expertise include internet consumer behavior, strategy and profitability, advertising research, and marketing research. He has written two book chapters and more than 40 articles. His research has been published in such esteemed peer-reviewed journals as the Journal of Strategic Marketing, Journal of Marketing Channels, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, Journal of Advertising Research, and the Journal of the Academy of Business Education. He received two Best Paper Awards from the Southern Marketing Association.

Prior to becoming a professor of marketing and international business at the Zarb School, Dr. James served as associate professor at Memphis State University and the University of Alabama. He also consulted at Cunningham & Walsh, Inc., an advertising agency behind infamous campaigns like “Let your fingers do the walking” for AT&T Corp.’s Yellow Pages.

In his more than 30 years at the Zarb School, Dr. James has participated in several committees to influence change, advised student organizations for national competitions and on-campus activities, and served as chair of the Department of Marketing and International Business. He received Hofstra University’s Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award in 1998-1999 and was named Distinguished Teacher of the Year by the Zarb School in 1999.

Dr. James received his PhD in management, with a marketing specialization, from Purdue University in 1981. He also holds an MS in experimental psychology from Purdue, an MS in computer science from Pace University, and a BS in geography from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

The Robert E. Brockway Endowed Distinguished Professorship was established in 2007 by Peter. C. Brockway in honor of his father, Robert E. Brockway, a former Hofstra marketing professor, Board of Trustees member, and chairman and CEO of Olympus Corp.
