President Stuart Rabinowitz announced today that Holly Seirup, EdD has been appointed Dean of the School of Health Professions and Human Services. Seirup has been serving as vice dean of the school since June 2015.
“Holly Seirup is an educator whose enthusiasm motivates students, faculty and staff alike,” President Rabinowitz said. “Her knowledge and understanding of the health care landscape ensure that the School of Health Professions and Human Services will be at the forefront of this fast-growing, quickly-changing field.”
Said Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Gail M. Simmons: “Dr. Seirup has done an extraordinary job as vice dean. Her deep experience as a professor, department chair and administrator, her strong relationships with HPHS faculty and her willingness to collaborate across the University, make her an ideal choice for the deanship.”
During her tenure as vice dean, the School of Health Professions and Human Services has added a graduate program in health informatics and welcomed its first cohort of students in Occupational therapy. Also, the school’s Master of Public Health and its graduate program in mental health counseling earned national accreditations.
“It’s been an honor to work with such talented and motivated faculty and students to grow and develop the outstanding programs at the School of Health Professions and Human Services,” Seirup said. “I’m excited to become dean of a school with such promise and potential as we work together to educate future health care leaders, clinicians, and compassionate advocates.”
Before Seirup’s appointment, Kathleen Gallo, served in a dual role as dean of the Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies and of HPHS.
“Dr. Seirup is a highly regarded professional at Hofstra University,” Gallo said. “Her university experience, commitment to academic excellence, and her professionalism is admired by many. I look forward to collaborating with Dr. Seirup as a fellow dean.”
Dr. Seirup, joined Hofstra in 1982 and began teaching full-time in 2006. She holds a joint appointment as a Professor in the Departments of Counseling & Mental Health Professions and Educational Leadership. She has previously served as chair of the Department of Counseling and Mental Health Professions.
Before joining the faculty, Dr. Seirup held various positions in Student Affairs including positions in Residential Life and the Dean of Students office, as well as serving as Vice President of Campus Life. In 2014, she was chosen by graduating students as the HPHS Teacher of the Year, and in 2015 she was awarded the Robert H. Shaffer Award for Academic Excellence as a Graduate Faculty Member by the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
