After over 30 years of dedicated service to Hofstra University, Dr. Ehsan Nikbakht, DBA, CFA, was recently installed as the C.V. Starr Distinguished Professorship in Finance and International Financial Services in recognition of his extensive scholarship achievements and contributions to the university.
Dr. Nikbakht was voted by students as an Executive MBA Teacher of the Year, and was recognized with the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching and Service. He directed 13 academic conferences at Hofstra, and currently serves as the program chair of the 24th Annual Global Finance Conference. He also serves on the editorial board of the Global Finance Journal.
An avid researcher, Dr. Nikbakht has written 17 peer-reviewed journal articles, two books, four book chapters by Oxford University Press, and 27 peer-reviewed paper presentations. His latest research focuses on volatility transmission across markets for the periods before and after the global financial crisis. In recognition of his research book, Foreign Loans and Economic Performance, published by the Praeger Special Studies, Dr. Nikbakht received a Stessin Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Publication, an accolade honoring the scholarly work of published articles by faculty in academic media.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nikbakht has filled both academic and professional roles, including as a department chair and associate dean of the Frank G. Zarb School of Business. He served on the board of advisers of the Journal of International Financial Engineering, as editor of the Hofstra Business Review, and as an advisory board member of the International Association of Financial Engineers. Dr. Nikbakht also was chair of the Derivatives Committee of the New York Society of Security Analysts, and has delivered numerous educational presentations at major financial institutions, including Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, S&P, PNC, Royal Bank of Canada, Merrill Lynch, Legg Mason, State Street, and Deutsche Bank.
Dr. Nikbakht holds a chartered financial analyst (CFA) designation. He is also a certified financial risk manager (FRM) by the Global Association of Risk Professionals, and a certified professional risk manager (PRM) by the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association.
The C.V. Starr Distinguished Professorship in Finance and International Financial Services was established in 2003 by the Starr Foundation, supporting its ongoing relationship with Hofstra and acknowledging the critical discipline of global financial and business education.
