Dr. Shawn Thelen Receives 2016 Article of the Year Award from the Marketing Education Review

Dr. Shawn Thelen, PhD, professor of marketing and international business, and his co-author, Dr. Earl D. Honeycutt, Jr., Distinguished Professor (Emeritus) of Marketing at North Carolina’s Elon University, were awarded the 2016 Marketing Education Review Article of the Year. It is the second time the two professors have won the award.

Their article, “What Do Job Candidates Consider Important When Assessing an Academic Position,” found stark differences between what newly-minted PhDs consider important in deciding whether to accept a position and what senior faculty interviewers think younger faculty should value when landing a job.

Dr. Thelen started his career in industry working in export management, product management, and operations planning with several Fortune 250 companies. His international experience includes two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Russia, as well as seven months teaching and studying in Taiwan. While in Russia, he worked on projects sponsored by The World Bank and the International Research and Exchange Board, taught university-level business courses and consulted with local entrepreneurs. His research interests include international services, international marketing, and health care marketing.
