Professor of Teaching, Literacy and Leadership and program director of Social Studies Education Alan Singer was interviewed by Diario de Noticias, a Portuguese newspaper founded in 1864. Dr. Singer weighed in on Jan Rodrigues, a Portuguese descendant who is believed to be the first person of either African or European origin to permanently settle in the area that would eventually become New York City.
