Faculty Tenure, Promotions and Distinguished Professorship Appointments

Hofstra University has awarded tenure and/or promotion to 21 faculty members, including two from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business; five from the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (HCLAS) Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs; four from the HCLAS School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts; three from the HCLAS School of Education; two from the HCLAS School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; two from the School of Health Professions and Human Services; two from the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication; and one from the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library. The University has also appointed four faculty to distinguished professorships in the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, and has reappointed seven faculty to distinguished professorships: four in the Frank G. Zarb School of Business and three in the Maurice A. Deane School of Law.

“Hofstra University is proud of the accomplishments of the faculty who have achieved tenure and promotion this year,” said Dr. Gail M. Simmons, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.  “They represent a broad spectrum of disciplines, approaches to teaching, and areas of research, but they are united in the passion and dedication they bring to their work with our students. I congratulate them, and I look forward to their continued engagement with our community.”

 

Tenures effective September 1, 2017, and promotions effective September 1, 2016

Kelly Fincham, in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations, was granted tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.

Ling Huang, in the Department of Chemistry, was granted tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.

Daisy Miller, in the Department of Writing Studies and Composition, was granted tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.

Jeffrey Morosoff, in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations, was granted tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.

Santiago Slabodsky, in the Department of Religion, was granted tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.

 

Promotions effective September 1, 2016

María-José Anastasio, in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Elfreda Blue, in the Department of Specialized Programs in Education, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Timothy Daniels, in the Department of Anthropology, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Esther Fusco, in the Department of Teacher Education Programs, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Ann Grafstein, in the Department of Reference Services and Collection Development, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Richard Himelfarb, in the Department of Political Science, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Takashi Kanatsu, in the Department of Political Science, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Janet Lenaghan, in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Cong Liu, in the Department of Psychology, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Victor Lopez, in the Department of Accounting, Taxation, and Legal Studies in Business, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Ilaria Marchesi, in the Department of Comparative Literature and Languages, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Mark McEvoy, in the Department of Philosophy, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Gregory Pell, in the Department of Romance Languages and Literature, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Jennifer A. Roberts, in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing-Sciences, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Holly Seirup, in the Department of Counseling and Mental Health Professions, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

Eustace Thompson, in the Department of Specialized Programs in Education, was promoted to the rank of Professor.

 

Distinguished Professorship Appointments effective September 1, 2016, through August 31, 2019

Dr. Debra Comer was appointed as the Mel Weitz Distinguished Professor of Business.

Dr. William James was appointed as the Robert E. Broackaway Distinguished Professor of Marketing and International Business.

Dr. Ahmet Karagozoglu was appointed as the C.V. Starr Distinguished Professor of Finance and Investment Banking.

Dr. Ehsan Nikbakht was appointed as the C.V. Starr Distinguished Professor of Finance and International Financial Services.

 

Distinguished Professorship Reappointments effective September 1, 2016, through August 31, 2019

Dr. Barry Berman was reappointed as the Bud Miller Distinguished Professor of Business.

Professor Robert A. Bush was reappointed as the Harry H. Rains Distinguished Professor in Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Settlement Law.

Dr. Joel Evans was reappointed as the RMI Distinguished Professor of Business.

Professor Leon Friedman was reappointed as the Joseph Kushner Distinguished Professor in Civil Liberties Law.

Professor Andrew Schepard was reappointed as the Max Schmertz Distinguished Professor in Law.

Professor Susan L. Martin was reappointed as the Cypres Family Distinguished Professor in Legal Studies.
