Hofstra University is excited to welcome new students who are joining the Pride for the first time. Welcome Week 2016 kicks off Thursday, September 1 with a five-day slate of activities. Incoming students will be introduced to academic and social life at the University, take part in special Hofstra traditions, and explore the diversity of both the student body and the surrounding communities.
Students and parents will arrive on campus beginning Thursday morning, unloading cars and decorating rooms before classes begin on Tuesday, September 6. See pictures from Move-In 2015.
On Friday, September 2 at 10:15 a.m., students will join author and sociologist, Harry Collins, for a discussion of his book and this year’s common reading assignment, Are We All Scientific Experts Now? The book focuses on science’s superiority and attempts to discredit the “expertise” claimed by those outside the scientific community.
Other highlights from September 1 – 5 include a Class of 2020 group photo, trips to New York City, a New Student Barbecue, dance party, and an outdoor movie screening.
