Two icons of Long Island’s performing arts community  – The American Chamber Ensemble and Eglevsky Ballet – are partnering with Hofstra University’s Department of Music to present a concert titled The Music That Makes Me Dance – a musical marriage of music and movement – on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 7 p.m. at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus.

The concert features music by Cole Porter, Felix Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, Piazzola, Gershwin, Jules Styne, Jon Russ, and Hofstra alumnus Andres Maldonado ’15, as well as choreography by Mikhail Fokine, Samuel Kunzman, Eric Lewis Thielman, and Maurice Brandon Curry, who serves as Executive Artistic Director at Eglevsky Ballet.

The concert features special guest artist Ashley Tuttle of American Ballet Theatre. Ms. Tuttle was invited by Mikhail Baryshnikov to join American Ballet Theatre at the age of 16, and her career spanned 17 years with A.B.T., reaching the rank of Principal dancer.

The Music That Makes Me DanceFounded by legendary New York City Ballet principal dancer Andre Eglevsky, one of the greatest dancers of his generation, Eglevsky Ballet has been bringing balletic artistry of the highest caliber to Long Island for more than 50 years. Eglevsky Ballet has long been recognized as a prominent, professional company.

The American Chamber Ensemble celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015. ACE directors Naomi Drucker, clarinetist, and Blanche Abram, pianist, then young mothers and musicians, were determined to continue making their place in the world of music. In a very different world from today, with a strong sense of place and the need to perform close to home, their musical journey began with performances in libraries, churches and for civic organizations. From such humble beginnings, ACE developed a superb reputation and loyal audience for its concerts, recordings, commissions, world premieres and support of American music and Long Island composers. In 1978, ACE began a residency at Hofstra University, which continues to this day. Today, Ms. Drucker and Ms. Abram are joined by Marilyn Lehman, who serves as co-director of ACE and music director of this concert.

Tickets for The Music That Makes Me Dance are $35 for adults and $25 for senior citizens and students. Special group rates available by request. For tickets and more information call the Hofstra Box Office at (516) 463-6644 or visit www.HofstraTickets.com. If seats are available, tickets will also be sold at the door, starting 90 minutes prior to show time.
