WRHU Wins 2016 Festival of Media Arts Awards

Student staffers at campus radio WRHU 88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University won three awards in the Broadcast Education Association’s 2016 Festival of Media Arts:

2nd Place: WRHU: “New York Islanders New York Rangers NHL Rivalry: The Next Chapter Begins”

Radio Newscast Category: 

3rd place:  WRHU Newsline:  coverage of  Winter Storm Juno

Alyssa Duspiva, Joe Corbisiero, Tiffany Vellis, Joy Jones

Specialty Program Category:

Honorable Mention:  WRHU “The Locker Room,” weekly sports analysis show

Brian Cudina, Mark Weiner

The winners were chosen from among 1,500 entries from 175 colleges and universities in this year’s competition.

Dwight Brooks, vice dean of the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, will accept the awards on behalf of WRHU during the Broadcast Education Association’s annual conference in Las Vegas, April 17-20, where he is also presenting a podium sessionJohn Mullen, WRHU’s director of operations, will also participate in a conference panel on cultivating immersive sports media opportunities with professional partners. The Herbert School is an institutional member of the Broadcast Education Association, a leading international academic media organization.
