Hofstra University is pleased to announce that Compass Group has assumed management of all University campus dining facilities, effective January 1, 2015. The Compass Group, operating under the title Campus Dining by Compass Group, replaces Lackmann Culinary services at all dining facilities.
Compass Group is comprised of a team of two well-respected food service providers: Chartwells Dining and Bon Appetit Management Company. Chartwells leads the education sector of Compass-USA Food Service Company and operates over 200 higher education dining facilities across the United States. The Bon Appetit Management Company is also a subsidiary of Compass-USA, and is particularly well-known for its healthy food menu selections and environmentally sustainable practices.
Hofstra community members deserve the very best when it comes to dining on campus, and we fully expect that the Compass Group team will deliver a high quality food service program for our community.
Over the winter break, the University and Compass Group formed a transition team to institute dining changes across campus. Some new highlights for the upcoming spring semester include:
- Award-winning Bon Appetit local, healthy, and organic cuisine will be offered at the Student Center and at Bits & Bytes
- A new fresh grill menu will be added at the Student Center, featuring fresh sustainable seafood, hormone free chicken, pork and beef.
- Dutch Treats will offer new food options with a focus on improved value, efficiency and student satisfaction.
- Several new dining concepts will be added on campus such as Mondo Subs, NY Hot Deli, and an expansion of fresh Tex-Mex cuisine offerings at Sono Kitchen in the Student Center.
For more information, please visit the new website for Campus Dining by Compass Group. Additional announcements will follow in the coming weeks about new key management appointments and dining initiatives.
Over the spring semester, Compass Group will be conducting a comprehensive evaluation of campus food service needs and menu offerings, including extensive student communication, SGA interaction, food service committee meetings, and other community consultations. We want to involve the entire campus community, appreciate your support and value your input during this transition.
All existing campus food service contract requirements previous held with Lackmann Culinary Service will be maintained by Compass Group for the remainder of the contract term, including student meal plan options, catering contracts, days and hours of operation at all facilities, and University Club operations. There will be some changes in food service managers and the existing food service employees (non-management) will retain their current positions, and also will receive extensive retraining to maintain their positions.
