The Hofstra University’s newly founded Alpha Delta Alpha chapter of the Alpha Upsilon Alpha Honor Society held its first induction ceremony on Monday, December 8. Alpha Upsilon Alpha, the honor society of the International Reading Association, was created in 1985 to recognize and encourage scholarship, the development of personal and professional leadership, and service to the field of reading at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Greek letters chosen for this honor society are significant: They come from the words Anagnosis (reading), Upotrophia (scholarship), and Archon (leadership). The society motto, which is attributed to Horace, says it all: “Lege sapere aude,” or “Read, dare to be wise.”
For more information on Alpha Delta Alpha email the chapter advisers Dr. Esther Fusco, Associate Professor of Teacher Education, and Dr. Andrea Garcia, Associate Professor of Specialized Programs in Education. Alpha Delta Alpha plans to host an informational meeting the first week of the spring 2015 semester for interested undergraduate and graduate students.
