Mario Gonzalez, assistant professor in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies and Public Relations, recently won a national Editor & Publisher EPPY Award for best news or event feature video.

He and colleagues at Newsday, where he worked as a videographer and editor before coming to Hofstra, won the prize for their work on “Year After Sandy:  Until Everyone Comes Home.”   The video looks at six Long Island families struggling to rebuild in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

Now in its 19th year, the EPPY Awards honor the best media-affiliated websites in 31 categories.  The Newsday video won among sites that have more than a million unique visitors each month.

Another of Prof. Gonzalez’s works while at Newsday, the Emmy Award-winning “New Farmers,” has been accepted to the seventh annual Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival.   Part of the festival’s “Focus on Locals” program, the documentary is scheduled to screen on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 5 pm at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor,NY.
