Year in Review 2013
Year in Review 2013

As we get ready to ring in the new year, we asked members of the Hofstra community about their resolutions for 2014. Check out their answers, and watch a video retrospective celebrating the highlights of 2013 here at Hofstra.

Laura Walsh Laura Walsh’14
B.F.A. in Theatre Performance
Studio City, CA

“I don’t normally plan my resolutions ahead of time, but my resolution would be to continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It would be great to kick my coffee addiction. Every year I think about trying to maintain a more positive outlook on life by not surrounding myself with toxic thoughts and people.”

William Finnegan William Finnegan’14
Creative Writing
East Meadow, NY

“Finish a novel. Start the process of getting it published.”

Associate Professor of Rhetoric

“Learn how to swim. Visit my son in Europe in the spring. Go to Paris for the first time.”

Aanad PatelAnand Patel’15
Public Relations
Memphis, TN

“Get an internship. Sleep more. Backpack through Europe. I would love to meet random people there and have them change my life.”

David Lalama IMG_7505David Lalama
Professor of Music
Coordinator of Jazz and Commercial Music

“I have the same resolution every year: to be a better father and husband.”

Hayley KinnName: Hayley Kinn’16
Pre-Health Anthropology
Sumner, IA

“Go to the gym at least twice a week because I don’t go at all now. Every semester I set a goal to get on the Dean’s List. Go to Disney World because I’ve never been and I’m saving up.”

Jennifer PirenJennifer Piren
Assistant Director of Event Management

“I’ve moved around at lot in my life. After living in Las Vegas for five years, I promised myself that I would move back to the east coast because I’m originally from Brooklyn. I started working at Hofstra this past September and so my resolution for next year is to find a more stable home and a place to plant some roots.”

Warren G. Frisina Honors CollegeWarren Frisina
Dean of Hofstra University Honors College (HUHC)

“I have two aspirations, beyond making HUHC an even better experience for all of our students.  I’ll be aiming to make some progress learning jazz on the guitar and I am making a solemn promise to delete or file the thousands of documents on my Mac’s desktop till I’m left with just the few that I’m working on. Realistically speaking though, at the end of the year it’s  more likely I’ll be playing like Django Reinhardt than that my desktop will be clear.”

Sherin GeorgeSherin George’15
Plainview, NY

“Get my priorities straight. To be more accepting of who I am and who others are. I am the president of Christian Fellowship at Hofstra and I would like to focus as a group on making more of a community where people feel welcomed.”

Adrian McKenzieAdrian McKenzie’16
Hempstead, NY

“To establish a study schedule and try to get an internship for the summer that I really like.”

Michael LudwigMichael Ludwig
Associate Professor of Health Studies and Kinesiology

“My New Year’s Resolution is to run a 5K road race faster than my 13 year old son. I’m close and since the end of his cross country season, he has NOT been training.  While I understand the difference between 13 and 59, he hasn’t quite understood the need to keep training in order to improve (and decrease the chances that I will EVER beat him in a 5K again).”

Logan AndersonLogan Anderson’16
Dance and Civil Engineering
Monrovia, MD

“Overall I want to be healthier by going to bed earlier and eating better. I want to work on getting all A’s. Go to Europe next summer to explore the arts there and get a European point of view.”

Adam glaser IMG_7507Name: Adam Glaser
Director of Hofstra Orchestras

“Exercise more and eat healthier.”

Cody DanoCody Dano’16
Public Relations
South Glen Falls, NY

“Spend more time with my family. Get an internship for the fall and stay on the Dean’s List.”

Jeffrey MorosoffJeffrey Morosoff
Assistant Professor of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations

“Get my research published. I am doing research on how non-profits handle public relations campaigns with few resources. Continue to expand the Masters in Public Relations program, especially working towards offering online courses. In general, focus more on making the classroom experience more technically-savvy.”

Ross PriceRoss Price’16
Queens, NY

“Three resolutions: Eat healthy. Spend less money. Make the Provost’s List.”

IMG_7501Mario A. Murillo
Chair and Associate Professor of Department of Radio, Television, Film

Finish my book by the end of 2014. I have seven chapters that I need to revise and update. Continue to stay healthy. Next semester is my last semester as the chair of the RTVF department, so I would like to push forward with a few curricular programs we’ve been working on in the last few years.
