Hofstra senior Chris Griebsch was named to the 2013 NSCAA University Division Men’s Scholar All-East Region squad, the organization announced today.
Griebsch was one of just 11 student-athletes to be named to the first team and one of only three forwards. The Dessau-Rosslau, Germany native posted a 3.65 grade-point-average and is majoring in international business.
The award was another honor for Griebsch, who was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Player of the Year last month. As one of the top offensive performers in the CAA this season, he ranked among the top-three in the conference in goals, assists and points. The senior forward led the league in assists for the third year in a row with eight, and is the Pride’s all-time assists leader with 32.
Hofstra posted a collective 3.17 GPA under head coach Richard Nuttall and was recognized as a 2012-13 College Team Academic Award winner.
Griebsch was one of three CAA-members to be named to the first team, joining William & Mary senior defender Will Smith and Drexel senior midfielder Ken Tribbett.
Griebsch contributed either a goal or an assist in 10 of the Pride’s 18 matches, including five of seven CAA contests. He was a third-team All-CAA selection in 2011 and a second-team All-CAA pick in 2012 before moving up to the first team this season. Griebsch is just the second Hofstra player to be honored as the CAA Player of the Year, joining Michael Todd in 2006.
