Hofstra University Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith will experience the thrill of a lifetime this weekend when she runs in the ING New York City Marathon.

The race, which will have various television coverage on ABC7 (locally), ESPN2 (nationally) as well as WatchESPN, WatchABC and 7online.com, has varied start times ranging from 8:30 a.m. until 10:55 a.m. on Sunday, November 3. Coach Smith will begin her marathon at 10:05 a.m.

Smith is participating in her first-ever marathon, but she is not doing it alone as she will run for Tri-ing for Kids, which is an organization of individuals of all athletic abilities inspired to compete for a cause greater than themselves and for something more than a medal. TFK provides financial support for children in need due to sickness, disability or injury.

“I am really excited to be running in the 2013 New York City Marathon with Tri-ing for Kids,” commented Smith. “To experience running through all five boroughs with over 40,000 people and over two million spectators will be a thrill that I never experienced before.”

Smith, a three-time first-team lacrosse All-American and a three-time NCAA Champion in lacrosse as well, will be wearing bib #26219 and a Hofstra Lacrosse t-shirt will be part of her marathon day outfit.
